Smart Shopping Tips
With the holiday shopping season in full swing, we understand that money may be tighter now more than ever. If you want to get the most out of your paycheck, check out these simple steps to start “Smart Shopping” this holiday season.
Tip #1: Take advantage of your rewards
From grocery store loyalty programs to using reward apps such as Fetch, there are many reward options. You can even earn your choice of cash rewards just for doing banking basics. Ask one of our representatives about Kasasa® to start earning rewards on your free checking.
Tip #2: Make a shopping list and stick to it
Keep a running list of the items that you need and want. The list should include things you commonly use and things you need. Avoid purchasing items that are not on your list or that you are not specifically looking for. Grocery stores are designed to make you purchase more than you originally came for.
Tip #3: Set a realistic shopping budget
Only you know what budgeting style works best for you. For each item that you plan to purchase, create a budget. Base your budget on what you can afford and the quality of the item. Research the product and analyze your financial status to see what you can comfortably spend.
Tip #4: Do research before purchasing
When shopping either online or in-store, always conduct research and compare prices before purchasing. Comparison apps, like Amazon, have a scanner feature that allows you to scan a barcode while in each store to do a quick price comparison. Ensure you also read good and bad reviews when shopping online.
Tip #5: Create a Savings Club Account for next year
A Savings Club is an additional savings option that is connected to your other Fairmont FCU accounts. Savings Clubs are designed to help you save money for a specific goal. The Savings Clubs that Fairmont FCU offers are unique by offering no minimum balance, no payment schedule and convenient withdrawals. Saving Clubs are a great way to separate your Saving Accounts and can be used to save for anything! There are no limits on what you can save for, or how much you can save.
Managing your finances can be stressful anytime of the year but can be especially tough during the holiday shopping season.
